Our NPT Malleable Black Iron fittings are made with care and attention to detail. Reduced parting lines and smoother edges result in better fluid flow. By using a low temperature galvanizing process the coating is more durable which means a longer lasting fitting. All Fittings are 100% Pressure Tested to 300# Class.

      • Material - ASTM A 197 - Cuppla Malleable Iron.
      • Pressure - Saturated steam: 150 PSI @ 350°F & Max pressure 300 PSI @ 150°F
      • Temperature range -20 - 350°F

The numbers on hydraulic fittings refer to the size and type of the fittings. They can indicate the fitting's thread size, pitch, and compatibility with other components. This information was sourced from "Hydraulic Hose Fittings Guide: How to Find the Right One" on the Hydraulics Direct website (https://www.hydraulicsdirect.com/Unde...), specifically under the sections "Understanding the Numbers" and "Choosing the Right Fitting".

The standard for hydraulic fittings is typically governed by organizations such as the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). Common standards include ISO 8434 for metallic tube connections and SAE J516 for hydraulic hose fittings, which ensure compatibility, reliability, and safety in hydraulic systems.

To understand hydraulic fittings, familiarize yourself with their types, such as flare, O-ring, and pipe fittings, and their purposes, like connecting hydraulic components and ensuring leak-free systems. Recognize the importance of matching fittings to their pressure ratings and material compatibility to maintain system integrity and performance.

To determine the correct size hydraulic fitting, measure the outer diameter (OD) of the fitting's threads and the pitch (distance between threads) using calipers and a thread pitch gauge. Consult a sizing chart or the manufacturer's specifications to match these measurements to the appropriate fitting size.

To identify types of hydraulic fittings, you can look at the thread type (such as NPT, BSP, or metric), the sealing method (like O-ring, metal-to-metal, or tapered), and the fitting shape (such as elbow, tee, or straight). Additionally, checking the manufacturer's specifications and using a thread gauge can help ensure accurate identification.

Teflon tape is generally not recommended for use on hydraulic fittings. Hydraulic systems typically rely on metal-to-metal sealing surfaces or O-ring seals, and using Teflon tape can introduce debris into the system, potentially leading to leaks or damage. It is better to use thread sealants specifically designed for hydraulic systems if needed.
